This work 22″ x 30″ was inspired by my research on the Corvid family of birds which include crows, ravens, magpies and jays. Every text I explored remarked on the intelligence of these birds, and even when compared to other living creatures, they are considered among the brightest of animals. They are capable of face recognition, self-awareness and even bargaining with human beings for favor. In this work I combine the omniscient gaze of the crow sitting on a power line with an old pair of Chuck Taylor Converse sneakers. The shoes have been twisting on the powerline for decades, weathered time capsules, and a feeble attempt of the human that tossed them up to claim the crow’s sky.
