This is a 3 foot by 3 foot painting on stretched canvas. Acrylic, sand, gesso and oil paints were used to create it. First I sketched the butterfly on paper. When I had the layout and dimensions the way I desired, I scanned it into my computer, enlarged it to the size I required, then printed it out via the tiling option in Adobe Illustrator. To transfer the image to canvas, I taped the tiled sheets together and lined the back of the patch-work image with carbon transfer paper. After the image was transferred, I preceded to texture and paint it.
